Event overview:
This is an annual event hosted by a registered
Hobie club. The event
plays host to all Hobie Cat
Association of North America (HCA-NA) registered members
in 15 of the eastern states
including but not limited to Florida, Georgia, South Carolina,
North Carolina, Virginia,
Delaware, Tennessee, Kentucky, New Jersey, Maine, New
York and for the East, Rhode
Island. Although it is named Mid-Winters East, competitors
from all over the country will
be welcome to participate. The race is one of the
determining factors in
accumulating points to qualify for an invitation to the National
Championships and then the
World Championships. This year our local club, CAT 44 of
Fort Lauderdale, has been
recognized as having one of the best race venues in the country
and has been asked to put this
event on.
Event Site:
The
event will be held on Fort Lauderdale Beach at the south end. Just
north
of the beach parking lot.
Sponsorship banners will be displayed at the race site where the
participants will
check-in/register on Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning
before the first race as well
as any other location approved by the City of Fort
Lauderdale.
The host hotel will be the
Bahia Cabana Resort, a long-standing landmark in the history
of the City of Fort
Lauderdale, located just a block from the race site. The Bahia
Cabana
has reserved a block of rooms
for the participants and will cater our Saturday Night
Social event that will include
photos/videos on a 15x15 ft. high definition screen of the
day's events and standings as
well as live music, beverages and a buffet style dinner for
the participants. At the
Social we will be raffling off merchandise provided by our
sponsors, dancing, drinking
and telling lies about the day's racing.
Date and Time:
The
event will be held on
March 25-27, 2011. This coincides with the
100 birthday of the City of
Fort Lauderdale. The City has agreed to sanction this event as
part of this celebration. The
first race will be held at approximately 11:00 AM. Saturday
morning with a scheduled races concluding around 4:00p.m. On Sunday we will start
approximately 10:00 AM. with
races concluding around 3:00p.m. with trophy
presentations immediately
following on the beach.
Race information:
The actual race site will be
directly off Fort Lauderdale Beach about
300 yards off the beach around
the Las Olas Blvd. area. We presently expect about 50-60
boats. This will be broken up
into different classes with there being approximately 40
double handed boats, 10 - 15
single handed boats and a small class of junior sailors with
about 5-10 boats for an
approximate total of 100-125 participants as well as family
members and race staff. The
racecourse will be a series of triangle courses determined by
the race committee with each
race taking from 30-60 minutes, depending on the course
and weather conditions.
The entree fee is set at
$85.00 for Double-Handed boats, $75.00 for Single-Handed boats
and $50.00 for juniors
Double-Handed ($40 for Single). Late fee after (3-3-11 - $20).
